Why does my emoji count as two characters on X?
X (Twitter) uses a weighted count: most Latin letters, numbers, and punctuation count as one, while emoji and most CJK characters count as two, and every URL counts as exactly 23 characters no matter its length. This counter applies those rules to its X row; every other row counts visible characters (graphemes), which is what most platforms enforce.
How many characters can an Instagram caption have?
Instagram captions can be up to 2,200 characters, but the feed truncates after roughly 125 characters with a "more" link, so the first line and a half does the real work. Bios are limited to 150 characters.
Why does one SMS become two or three messages?
A single SMS carries 160 characters if every character is in the basic GSM-7 alphabet.
